Job description

The Community and Regional Planning (CRP) program at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking a motivated and ambitious PhD student focused on emerging transportation technology planning to join us in August of 2021. 

Dr. Junfeng Jiao is looking for a PhD student to join his research group (Urban Information Lab) to work on two federally funded research projects. One project was funded by the National Science Foundation-Smart and Connected Communities. His team will work with colleagues in UT department of electrical and computer engineering to design and plan electrified transportation hubs (E-Hubs) in the City of Austin. The other project was funded by the US Department of Transportation. His team will investigate the spatial and temporal pattern of shared micro mobility travel in several US cities (E-scooter, Bike) and its impacts on the public transportation system. 

The entering PhD student has the option to work on either project. We expect the entering PHD student has a strong interest and good understanding in transportation, geographic information system and quantitative analysis. Programming skill is a plus. We welcome students in urban planning, transportation, engineering, informatics, geography, public policy, economics, and other related field to apply for this position. 

The entering student will be awarded four years of assured funding out of a typical five-year PhD duration, with the fifth year of funding readily obtainable.
