A PhD position in Materials Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) starting in Fall of 2018
Research field: low-dimensional ceramics, solid state chemistry, spectroscopy, condensed matter physics
We are looking for a self-motivated PhD student passionate on experiments-based materials science/condensed matter physics/optics research/electronics/solid state chemistry with particular interest in vacuum deposition and characterizations of materials physical properties. The position will be supported by a standard full-time research assistantship and the accepted student will be advised by Prof. Jian Shi.

Our group research is focused on synthesizing low-dimensional materials, including complex and perovskite compounds, characterizing their symmetry-associated physical properties, and applying these materials for sensing, energy conversion and neuromorphic computing. Basic Qualifications:
The candidate shall have a strong passion and interest on materials science research and be strongly self-motivated in the future research. A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or other related fields is required for the candidate. The successful candidate shall start in the summer (preferred) or fall of 2018.
